As the cold bears down on us, Mishawaka Police are bearing down on those who aren't moving their cars.
Starting Thursday, police tagged cars that haven't been moved. Those cars, in the way of emergency vehicles and snow plows, must be moved in the next 72 hours or police will tow them.
Roughly 30 or 40 tags have been placed on car windows on the city's west side, according to Lt. Tim Williams.
"And it's not just cleaning it off, and shoveling around it, but we actually need it to be moved," said Williams of the cars, which are left alone by plows for roughly a car length on each end of the vehicle.
"If somebody's having a heart attack, we're not going to be able to reach 'em," Williams added of emergency vehicles.
"You're not going to be able to bring a big plow down here, to plow this, unfortunately with the roads getting smaller it's harder to get those plows through there, so the last thing we wanna do is our city plows hit a person's car," he said.
For Earl Frost, snowbirds aren't a concern because of public safety. Instead, the snowbird parked across the street from his home gets in his way every time he tries to back out his driveway.
"I'm disabled and I gotta shovel my driveway, I don't see why they can't shovel their stuff out," said Frost.
"Ticks ya off, trying to get out of your driveway, and you can't, you gotta keep going back and forth, back and forth, to get out, I don't like it," added Frost.
