Sources close to the investigation revealed Francisco Macias, 31, first stabbed his ex-wife, Maria Miranda, multiple times around 1:45 a.m. Monday morning in the 1800-block of Mediterranean Ave. A juvenile was also injured, but it is not clear if Macias was their father. Miranda is in stable condition.

Shortly after someone threw a propane tank, modified to explode, through the window of a home in the 1100-block of Grant Street. Jose Aguilar and his two sons, Ricardo and Adolfo, were killed in the explosion. Aguilar's wife, daughter and two of the boys' uncles survived the fire.

Police said Macias is considered a person of interest in the fire, but there isn't enough evidence to prove he committed the crime. Officers have not revealed why Macias would want to ignite the home, however a motive does exist.

Around 3:14 a.m. police believe Macias stabbed his girlfriend, Maria Sanchez, multiple times in the 1100-block of Whitfield Court. Sanchez was taken into surgery at a local hospital and expected to survive.

About an hour and a half later, Goshen police chased a car registered to Macias. The car finally stopped in a bean field where an investigation revealed an accelerant was used to light the car on fire.

The Elkhart County Coroner confirmed the driver died in the fire, but wasn't able to confirm Macias was driving because the body was burned beyond recognition. A DNA sample is being tested, but the process could take weeks.

The fire and police department will send a report of their investigations to the Elkhart County Prosecutor's office on Thursday for review. The prosecutor's staff will then determine if there is anyone else that could be charged in the case.
