If you do not vote, you cannot make a difference.
That is the message of one local group who spoke to high school students on Wednesday about the importance of making their voices heard.
The League of Women Voters was at Clay High School spreading their “No Vote, No Voice” 2012 High School Voter Registration Project.
The group spoke with students and allowed them to register to vote.
They say it is important that kids understand how voting impacts their own lives.
Co-president Lisa Plencner says, “There are studies that show that 80% of young people feel that they have the power to change the government, so we really want to get them involved. Studies show that millenials make up 24% of the voting age population in this upcoming election, and they'll make up 30% by 2020.”
The group will speak with more Clay High School students on Thursday during the first, third and sixth period hours of the school day.
