Plenty of folks waited until the last minute to buy a Valentine’s Day treat for their honey.
Stores across Michiana were swamped Tuesday night with people picking up candy, cards and flowers.
“I’m buying my sweet thing some candy,” said Niles resident Ken Parritt.
So were hundreds of other folks, who stopped by Veni’s Sweet Shop in Niles to pickup some goodies.
The day before and the day of Valentine’s Day are Veni’s busiest days of the year. They were so busy Monday and Tuesday, they ran out of chocolate peanut clusters and gourmet candy-covered apples.
But shoppers were still able to find just the right gift for their sweethearts.
“I just got [my daughters] some chocolate roses and I picked up some dark chocolate caramels,” said Niles resident Chris Corbit. “When doesn’t chocolate put a smile on somebody’s face?”
The South Bend Chocolate Company was also slammed Tuesday. Many folks were in a bit of a panic when they stopped by Tuesday night. Their most popular item was chocolate-covered strawberries – they sold more than 300 pounds.
And while a box of chocolates may be an old cliché on Valentine’s Day, the treats that melt in peoples’ mouth carry a message that also melts their hearts.
“I love you, what else is there to say?” said South Bend resident Carlton Cunningham.
