Most would agree the economy is far from great right now, but that's not stopping some determined young entrepreneurs from pursuing their dreams.
Goshen College has gifted five students $5,000 grants to start their very own businesses.
Two of those students are Niles Graber-Miller and Hans Weaver. They got a grant to manufacture their product, Menno Tea. It is a cold, mint tea that uses all organic ingredients.
The recipe is a family tradition for Hans. In fact, his mother has been making it since he was little. "I would come home from work or school or wherever, and she would usually have a fresh glass of it at home every day for me," he said.
So when the college announced they had money to hand out to students with business ideas, he and his friend Niles brewed up a plan. "Hans came to me," Niles said, "and said, 'Hey I have this idea for a tea business,' and I said 'Yes, let's see if we can get a grant for it.'"
Their idea for the product was to keep it simple. Hans said their goal was to promote good ethics within business. All of their ingredients are locally grown, organic and fair trade.
They have been advertising on campus, but Hans and Niles' goal is to be able to sell Menno Tea in local stores. If it gets bigger than that, they say they will drink up all the success they can.
Niles also got a separate grant from the college to make electric vehicles that can be rented out for companies to place ads on. Other winning projects include media, music and photography businesses.
