The Goshen community remembered Professor James Miller Wednesday night with a series of prayers. James was killed Sunday morning during a home invasion, which also injured his wife, Linda.

"We normally have Wednesday evening activities here at the church and as we began to talk about this week it immediately went to we'll have a prayer service," said Lead Pastor at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church Terry Diener.

The Miller family did not attend the service. Instead the three children remained at the hospital with their mother.

"I spent some time with the children on Sunday. All three of them were obviously in a state of shock, but felt surrounded and cared for by the people around them," said family friend Annetta Borntrager Good.

Diener said Linda was making progress. Doctors removed a tube from her lungs and she could be released on Thursday.

"Especially in times like this we want to be together as a church and we opened it up to the broader community. This is our way of showing our love and support for the miller family and a time of coming together ourselves," said Diener.

On Wednesday Goshen Police continued their search for the killer. He described as a clean-cut man in his early to mid 20’s and between 5’10” and 6’ tall. A sketch is available here.

Despite the hurt the Millers are suffering, Diener said they are not bitter.

"As I've met with the family the one thing that I’ve heard the family say in their prayers for the person who did this is that they would pray that he would come to the ability to turn himself in and somehow through the process find God for himself," said Diener.

Linda released this statement from the hospital Wednesday night:
Last Sunday I lost my best friend and partner in parenting. Whenever I think of Jim I see him in heaven, standing without pain and smiling, his pain is over. I am so glad that he is in heaven with our Saviour [sic]. The kids and I will miss him terribly, but we know that God is with us and will see us through whatever tough times lie ahead.

The visitation for James is tentatively scheduled on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. The funeral is tentatively scheduled for Monday at 6:30 p.m. Both will be at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church, located on County Road 35 in Goshen. The dates will be confirmed once Linda is released from the hospital.
