The death of an 18 year old Granger teenager at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center may end up in court.
Amanda Abbiehl entered the hospital last July with strep throat and a fever. 24 hours later the Penn High School grad was dead, and her parents waited months to hear what killed her.
Th Abbiehl's were told nearly five months after Amanda's death that the autopsy was inconclusive. The coroner told NewsCenter 16 last week that she had a sudden cardiac arrest brought on by a virus.
The Abbiehl's said all along, they just wanted to talk with the doctor and medical center to try and understand how an otherwise healthy teen could die.
The Abbiehl's lawyer, Pete Agostino, got a letter recently stating that the hospital would meet with them. However, the Abbiehl's say the hospital withdrew that offer when Agostino requested certain people be present.
Agostino confirmed that to NewsCenter 16 Wednesday. However Agostino said the family doctor appears ready to meet with him, and he will make a final decision on whether or not to file a lawsuit against the center, in connection with Amanda's death, after that.
