An area church is raising money to build a new church in Central America, and they're doing it by selling a newly made-over home.
The youth pastor at First Baptist Church in Elkhart and his group of kids raised money to buy a Cedar Street home, fix it up, and sell it to a low income family.
They got help from members of the community, including Linton's Enchanted Gardens, who saw the group's entry in our 16 Curb Appeal contest and decided to donate landscaping materials.
All of the proceeds from the home's sale will go toward building a new church in Costa Rica.
“It wasn't as focused on the money raising, it was let's get our kids together this summer, let them work on something, and we started exploring the options and got the money to do it and said here it is, we're going to do this,” said Jed Long with First Baptist Church.
Linton's donated about $8,000 to the effort, and 90-percent of the home makeover was done by teenage volunteers.
