The damage from Friday’s storm is widespread but the weekend gave many folks time to clear downed branches and debris.
As for the power, it's a waiting game as thousands of residents wait for their lights to come back on.
When the storm first hit, an estimated 80,000 homes and businesses lost power. Now, an estimated 87% has been restored.
Indiana-Michigan Power says as of 5:30 a.m. Tuesday 10,450 homes and businesses in Michiana are still without power. In the greater South Bend area 3,800 are without power. In Buchanan 1,700 are still in the dark. In New Buffalo, the total is 4,700 and in the Benton Harbor area 250 remain without power.
Power in Elkhart has been fully restored.
Officials are predicting 95% of power in the South Bend area should be back on by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday with the rest back on by 4 p.m. Wednesday. Meantime 95% of power is expected to be restored in Michigan by 11:59 p.m. Tuesday with the rest by 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Midwest Energy Cooperative says all of their customers in Cass County received power by Sunday night.
Police ask that if you spot fallen power lines to call AEP at 1-800-311-4634 instead of calling 911.
