Congressman Joe Donnelly announced Sunday he is now supporting the controversial healthcare bill, and the reconciliation bill to reform healthcare.
Rep. Donnelly said he originally opposed the health care bill because it did not meet his standards for the use of federal funds for abortion related services.
Donnelly a pro-life congressman will continue to act according to his beliefs and those of the people of Indiana.
“I will continue to act according to my deeply held beliefs and those of my constituents. I believe that means opposition to abortion as well as improving access to healthcare for all people,” Rep. Donnelly said.
According to Donnelly, this bill will level the playing field for the people of Indiana and insurance companies. He also said, it will improve care by extending coverage to 32 million Americans who are currently uninsured. That means 64,500 Hoosiers would receive care and it would improve healthcare to over 400,000 people.
“We need to prohibit insurance companies from denying healthcare to folks who suffer from serious illness and we need to extend the life of Medicare,” Rep. Donnelly said.
The Senate is expected to vote on the House’s version of the bill Sunday night.
