Student success is the primary goal of a school board, but a South Bend board member says the board is part of the reason the kids are failing.
This comes in reaction to the Department of Education's review released Monday.
Board member Roger Parent says action must be taken immediately as three school run the risk of a state takeover. Those include Riley, Washington, and Bendix. All are on academic probation.
Parent says the superintendent, Jim Kapsa, needs to take a firm stand and implement changes the board has suggested.
“Nobody has gotten to the core of what the problem is. We're operating schools the way we did 100 years ago. I think immediately the board has to look at the way it operates, the way it supports the superintendent,” says Parent.
Parent says we haven't heard the last from him on this issue. The next school board meeting is on March 15th.
