Wednesday brought somewhat disappointing news. Michiana was shut out as another $1.5 billion in stimulus money was awarded.
The so-called Tiger Grant Program, was established to fund big ticket transportation projects. Just two Indiana projects will receive funding.
$20 million will go to build an eight mile bicycle and pedestrian path in downtown Indianapolis, Another $20 million will rebuild a bridge over the Ohio River, linking Madison, Indiana with Kentucky.
Among the local projects that were not funded, the City of Elkhart had sought $65 million to build grade separations at Hively and Prairie Avenues. South Bend had requested $20 million for a new interchange on the bypass at Adams Road.
The South Shore Railroad had requested $20 million to realign the tracks at the South Bend Regional Airport.
The local grant applications were rejected.
