It's a display of the best and brightest and world is watching, and we're not talking about the Olympics.
The 2010 Chicago Auto Show has blown into the Windy City.
From old, to new, to futuristic, the Chicago Auto Show revs into McCormick Place over the next week. This is the largest auto show in the world with nearly 1.3 million people walking between these cars and fantasizing about their next automotive purchase.
Every major car company is here with giant, elaborate displays. Cars are painstakingly detailed: you won't find a smudge on them.
Though you'll recognize most of the logos and brands, it's the smaller companies that are quietly and happily finishing in first place with critics.
Take Fisker, for instance. This southern California-based company is new, small, and produces a car that's not only easy on the eyes, but also the environment.
"You get the bonus that it is a plug-in hybrid, so you get the responsibility. I think it's the marriage of those two that is so appealing to people," said Marti Eulberg of Fisker.
You can take this car home beginning in December. It costs a cool $76,000 (we didn't say it was easy on the wallet) but think of all the gas money you'll be saving.
"The same way you would plug in your cellular telephone, right? You come in, walk over to your vehicle, you plug it in, you charge it," explained Eulberg.
This car is so green that the wood interior is taken from fallen trees of the California wildfires and even trees taken from the bottom of Lake Michigan that fell more than 100 years ago. With all this, it spares no expense for modern features.
This is actually exhaust that comes out the side of the vehicle - the wheels on the vehicle are 22 inch. Those are standard," said Eulber.
Embattled Toyota has one of the largest, most impressive displays right at the entrance front and center. Not surprisingly they refused to talk about their ongoing saga, but gladly discussed their latest version of the Avalon.
"From a Toyota standpoint, we look at it from of course the quality and reliability standpoint, and then also the individual style of the vehicle. And I think that's especially true with the Avalon," said Matt Troyer, Toyota vehicle specialist.
There's a car here for every person and personality. When it comes to what's next for the auto industry, the sky's the limit, but it will cost you.
The 2010 Chicago Auto Show runs through next Sunday.
Be sure to tune in to NewsCenter 16 Monday. We're headed back for another look at the auto show. This time we will preview some of the hottest concept cars the auto world has to offer.
