A food pantry in Middlebury does a lot of good, but they'll be shelved unless they can nail down a license.
According to our reporting partners at The Truth, the Middlebury Community Food Pantry is not licensed with the Elkhart County Health Department.
Without one, they may soon have to stop handing out frozen hamburgers, hot dogs, bologna, and cheese.
Two inspectors checked things out Saturday, and food bank officials say they were polite and almost apologetic. However, rules are rules.
For now, the pantry will continue to help those in need while they work with health department inspectors to see what can be done.
The health department has not given the pantry a deadline to come into compliance.
