We now know what may have caused the death of a Middlebury 8-year-old.
Nolan Lawson was doing a warm-up run around the gym at Middlebury Elementary on Thursday, when he collapsed.
School staff members provided medical help until paramedics arrived. He was then rushed to Elkhart General Hospital, where he later died.
According to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, the coroner is attributing Lawson's death to a congenital heart defect.
The boy also had asthma, but it is unknown whether that contributed to his death.
