They say "Love Don't Cost A Thing" and it couldn't be truer than by example with one wedding.
A homeless couple in South Bend got married with a military style wedding and reception thanks to some community donations.
Robert Towns and Deborah McLaughlin have been dating for 7 years and made it official Friday.
Friends chipped in to pay for the rings, flowers, church, reception, limo, hotel room, and even military uniform.
“It’s just been really rough to get to this day but we made it. We made it,” says McLaughlin. They couple says they couldn’t afford to pay for the ceremony and reception without help.
The groom wanted a military style ceremony. He's a part of Miller's Vets, a group started by former Judge Robert Miller Senior, to help homeless vets.
“I'm grateful for all the guys. They decided to come and stand-up for me, to do all the honors. We’ve been together since the Memorial Day parade and it’s been great. They are like a band of brothers,” says Towns.
The judge helped coordinate most of the wedding and even gave the bride away.
“The word overwhelming is the only thing I can bring up right now,” says Miller.
The couple originally met at Hope Rescue Mission. They plan to move out of The Center for the Homeless next year and into an apartment.
