By now, many in Michiana probably have their Christmas trees up and decorated.
The Christmas tree is a symbol of the season and represented all over the world. At the Center for History in South Bend, visitors can take a look at trees decorated by local people as well as trees with international themes.
Marilyn Thompson from the Center for History says the international exhibit has trees that reflect the community’s rich ethnic heritage. For example, there is a Polish, Spanish, Chinese, and Swedish tree.
“When families come and they look at these trees, they like to go to their own ethnic tradition and find it,” Thompson said. "We're so pleased that this continues to be a tradition."
Each of the trees has a sign next to it, describing its decorations. To learn more about the exhibit and when you can see it, click on the Big Red Bar.
