Three children get out safely after a South Bend home catches fire.
Fire crews were called to the 1000 block of Vassar around 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Heavy smoke was coming from the second floor.
According to the teen boy who was inside the house, the fire started in a room on the second floor, where a 9-year-old and 15-year-old girl were. He says they all got out safely, and the girls were with their aunt Saturday night.
The homeowners were shopping when the fire broke out. The home next door was also damaged.
