Conducting class without a classroom, that's the reality for some South Bend teachers.

Monday night, the public spoke out on overcrowding at Washington High School.

About 20 people voiced their concerns to the school board including city councilmen, former students, and parents.

At Washington, classes are taught in lunch rooms and teachers are going from room to room on carts.

Parents say Riley High School has room for 1700 students, but only has 1300.

School board member Bill Sniadecki even stood up in the audience as a member of the public.

He says the $14 million the district spent in 2004 hasn't done the job.

“No matter what you're doing, whether it's work or school, the environment you're in is how you're going to succeed. The big mistake made is that they weren't thinking about the kids before they built this building right there,” SBCSC Board Member Bill Sniadecki said.

Sniadecki says over $8 million was spent on the administration building.

Thursday night, the public has an opportunity to sound off about Clay High School renovations at 5 p.m. at Clay.
