The program is called Pass it Forward and encourages families to pass gently used clothing and other items onto other families through the church.
"We have a couple of televisions, we have a microwave we have a couple of toddler beds," said organizer Tamara Graber. "Sometimes we get in a suit or two."
Church members are almost finished sorting through the thousands of clothing items available for the free garage sale.
"A lot of the men, depending on what their jobs, they'll take new pants newer looking or if they have job where it doesn't matter what they look like because they're gonna get dirty, they'll come and take a pair that has a hole in it, it doesn't matter," said Graber of last year's event that helped more than 300 families.
"The kids clothes are really popular," Graber said as she walked past the many tables filled seven or eight items deep with clothing. "As we know kids grow up and out and you're basically replacing clothes every six months."
This year Crystal Valley is expecting between 500 and 600 families to attend.
There is no income verification requirement or residency requirement, simply fill out a registration card with how many people are in a family.
The first three days families are limited to a certain number of items based on the number of people in the family.
On Saturday the church is clearing everything out and will remove the restriction.
Crystal Valley Missionary Church is located at 233 U.S. Highway 20 in Middlebury, IN across from the Essenhaus Inn.
