It would be the ultimate gift this Thanksgiving if some local soldiers make it home in time for dinner, and so far, it's looking good.
Monday, NewsCenter 16 learned 12 marines with South Bend's Engineering Company B are back on U.S. soil.
They weren't expected to return from Iraq so soon, but they completed their mission and are now stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
Military officials say they're trying to get the Marines back with their families by Thanksgiving Day.
