The fallout continues over the University of Notre Dame's decision to give President Barack Obama an honorary degree.
The US Conference of Catholic Bishops went behind closed doors for a meeting Wednesday to discuss how they should increase their oversight over 200 Roman Catholic colleges and universities.
A task force is currently researching what church law says about bishops' authority over the schools.
The Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities is planning a similar discussion for their January meeting.
Notre Dame's decision to honor Obama at its May commencement caused uproar within the church and protests from anti-abortion groups.
