Brown Mackie College in South Bend has a new home, and school officials say the building more than makes the grade.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Thursday morning for Brown Mackie's new building on Douglas Road. It's packed with features, including two nursing labs, an occupational therapy lab, a vet-tech suite and an expanded library.
Faculty and students are excited about the new opportunities for growth and education that the new facility will help provide.
"You know in the building we were in, we were incredibly tight. Right now we have space,” said Louise Stienkeoway, president of Brown Mackie, South Bend campus. “Probably, we could move this to about 18, 19-hundred students. We have opportunity right now for some growth."
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is just the beginning of the school's grand opening celebration. An open house will be held on Saturday for people in the community to tour the campus.
