Help came too late for an abused horse found in St. Joseph County, and now police hope track down the animal's owner to press charges.
Police started investigating the case after a driver found the horse walking along a road unattended. She was spotted near State Road 4 and Redwood Road.
The horse was severely malnourished, and police say you could actually see every bone in her body.
A nearby farm owner didn't know who the horse belonged to, but volunteered to keep her until the Humane Society could pick her up.
Unfortunately, the horse died before that happened.
Police and the Humane Society are now trying to find the person responsible for neglecting the animal.
