A small section of a South Bend street opens and brings about big changes close to Notre Dame.

Eddy Street along Angela Boulevard opened Tuesday.

Plus Napoleon Street will soon extend all the way State Road 23.

Eddy Street has been closed for more than a year during construction, and the result - Eddy Street Commons -- officially opened to the public on Tuesday.

Kite Realty Developer Chris Mulloy says the project is, “very symbolic for the city. Obviously traffic can flow through here and we will have businesses opening here very shortly.”

The Foundry Apartments and the parking garage are the only places open right now, but Chipotle and Hot Box Pizza are expected to open soon.

Developers are excited to see a partnership between the university and the city come to life.

“What the community should know is how hard Notre Dame collaborated with the City of South Bend and community to make this happen,” says Mark Dobson, President of the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce.

Plus fans can walk Eddy Street when they come to the first home game this weekend.

“For people coming back to South Bend who haven't been here in a while they are going to feel lost. We really feel they are going to be amazed. There will be a terrific wow factor and they will spread a buzz. People are going to say there is a lot going on in South Bend,” says Mayor Stephen Luecke.

Here's a look at some of the businesses that are coming to Eddy Street:

Chipotle, Hot Box Pizza, and Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Follett Bookstore, Anytime Fitness, Old National Bank, Outpost Sports and Aveda.

Game day parking is available at the parking garage for 40 bucks. On weekdays, the first two hours are free.

Two hotels, city home, condos have yet to be built. Also people will be moving into available office space this fall.
