Lou Holtz -- whether he would run for Congress -- was the hot topic at Wednesday's Irish Legends Golf Outing at Lost Dunes in Bridgman.

But outside of that, it was all about having fun, reflecting on the old days and helping the foundations of Holtz and Ara Parseghian.

It was an All-American who's who of Notre Dame standouts on hand for the 3rd annual event, including 1947 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Lujack.

"This is one of the great things in life," says Lujack. "That they know you and you know them. And to help Lou and Ara. It's great."

Lujack, now 84, wasn't showing his age despite a laundry list of injuries including two knee replacement surgeries.

The former Irish quarterback was even multi-tasking---puffing on his cigar and hitting golf shots at the same time.

While Lost Dunes isn't 'South Bend,' Lujack says simply being back in the area is special.

"The Golden Dome always means something to me," he explains "Any time I can see it--fly over or what have you. Notre Dame has been very kind to me over the years and I just love coming back here."

Another Heisman winner, Johnny Lattner, was also on hand. He even had his two sons and son-in-law with him to play.

"It's always nice to tell stories about what you did do, what you didn't do, what you should have done, and what you shouldn't have done," the 1953 Heisman winner explains. "It's nice to comeback and just rehash."

And it couldn't have been a better day. Gorgeous sunny skies allowed the event to truly shine. It does a lot to help the Parseghian Foundation, entering its 15th year this October.

"I'm very grateful for the whole Notre Dame family for supporting our foundation," the 86-year-old 2-time national championship coach says. "The support we have received from not only the Notre Dame family but also the community has been terrific."
