A case of road rage in a congested construction zone -- led to a fight that sent one man to the hospital and another to jail.
It all started Monday afternoon at the corner of Douglas Road and State Road 933.
Police say an SUV and a car were headed down Douglas, when one driver wouldn't let the other get into the lane.
The drivers exchanged words -- but when they hit the stoplight, one of the men got out of his vehicle -- that’s when the fight broke out.
Police say a knife and a wooden stick were involved in the argument, and ended, when one of the men was pushed down.
"He went down and hit the pavement…and got a good part of an inch gap in [the] back of his head," explained Corporal Larry Kubsch of the St. Joe County Police.
"Once he hit the ground there was no more fighting. By the time we got here, less than a minute, they were already separated," added Corporal Kubsch.
53-year-old Robert Martin of South Bend was arrested and charged with aggravated battery.
The other driver, a 43-year-old South Bend man was driven to the hospital by his teenage son -- paramedics say he had a gash on the back of his head.
Police say this is an important to stay patient in construction zones.
