The national debate on health care reform made its way to South Bend Saturday, when a rally and march were held downtown.
About 100 people came out as part of the "Organizing for America" nationwide push for universal health care. After the rally, folks marched to the UAW local #5 hall on Main Street where a blood drive was held.
The point of the day's event was both to give back to the community and spread the word about universal health care, which the group says is crucial.
"We just want to make sure that the people that are writing it have the support from their community to write the correct health care reform. There's 47 million people that are uninsured and that's unacceptable in the United States of America. We are the United States and we should have health care for all of our citizens," said Jennifer Peck. "We're supporting the president's three principles -- we want to insure quality, affordable health care for all, and reduced costs.
Saturday's rally is part of the National Health Care Day of Service. Events were held in all 50 states throughout the day.
