Work is underway to clean-up a stretch of a South Bend road known as the "Fat Daddy's" block and then market it.
Plus, crews are preparing to develop the block north of it, as well.
Recently the city started to board up the three buildings along the block in an effort to market it.
The block north of "Fat Daddy's" was sold to a private investor who is looking at development opportunities.
Neighboring businesses hope something happens soon whether it’s rebuilding or demolition.
“The City of South Bend has had its eye on these buildings for many years and recognizing the building owners themselves could not invest the money themselves into the buildings. They were slowly falling into decline so when the building owner decided to move on we were the only likely buyer,” says Jennifer Laurent from South Bend’s Department of Community and Economic Development.
The city bought Fat Daddy's and B-B Cabinets more than a year ago.
The block was listed in the National Register of Historic Places so restoration is the city's first choice.
