An Argos couple was so desperate, they were getting ready to move into their garage, when a landlord in a Rochester mobile home park came to their rescue.
In fact, we even got calls from concerned neighbors.
Now, that they're settled in their new home, Anita and John Spangle shared their story about appreciating family and friends first.
It's small, it's simple, and they know it's not what most people would call their dream home, but, the couple says it's a dream come true considering what they were about to call home.
Anita says, “If we had to, we would've moved our beds and everything in the garage and lived in the garage.”
Their old home in Argos had mold everywhere, not to mention the garage was actually bigger. They tried to find affordable housing at about $350 dollars a month and had no luck until now.
John says, “The mold was so bad that when they moved the refrigerator, the guy taking it out almost got sick.”
John and Anita felt sick everyday, especially John who has Multiple Sclerosis and other medical problems.
Anita says, “Since we've been out of that situation, we don't cough as much, sneeze as much, we sleep better at night.”
Word of mouth from friends and family brought them in front of a landlord in Rochester.
Anita says, “She handed me the key and said, 'Look at it. If you like it, keep the key and move in. If you don't, bring me they key back.' We’re here. She docked off half the month's rent for us and the deposit, we're working out. I'm very appreciative and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.”
John says, “If I can have a place to live and be with family, that's good enough for me.”
