Some in the nation's capital are lobbying for more unions, and they took their fight to South Bend on Wednesday.
The Employee Free Choice Act is becoming a hot topic on Capitol Hill and on Wednesday in South Bend it was the subject of a street picket.
Protestors say they want a change in the way unions organize in the future.
“Hopefully what ends up coming out of that is that workers will be given the opportunity to sign a card that says I want to join a union and I stand with my coworkers in wanting to join a union,” said Tim Thomas, of Indiana Change That Works. “And that once they have a majority of their coworkers that want to join, the opportunity will be afforded for them to join a union.”
Right now, when a majority of workers signs union cards, that simply leads to a secret ballot election that determines whether a union is recognized or not.
