The city ordinance that would charge user fees for police protection for large events has been tabled.
South Bend police -- prompted by the President's visit to Notre Dame next month -- had proposed a bill that would charge even hosts for the extra police on hand.
Thursday night the Common Council decided to put off the ordinance, while more details are ironed out.
Meanwhile, city officials said Notre Dame will pay for the police protection during commencement.
The president will be in town Sunday, May 17th.
The city will re-visit the user fees ordinance in about a month.
