After last weekend's heavy rain, water levels have risen along streams and rivers in the area. In South Bend, a street along the St. Joseph River is closed after flooding.
Bob Towbridge, of South Bend, lives near the St. Joseph River and sees the flooding every year. Since this morning, the water has risen at least a couple of inches, he said.
"You can see that the current is slowly pushing the water into the street," said Towbridge.
In South Bend and around Michiana, high water levels concerned residents.
Anthony Anderson lives along the Elkhart River. The land behind his backyard fence hasn't been covered with water -- until recently.
"Right now it's risen 3 to 5 feet, so now this entire forest floor is all completely underwater," said Anderson.
"Every time it rains we always get scared because we never know what's gonna happen," he said. "In the last two years, this has been the worst. This is really really bad."
Just down the road from Anderson, a pile of sandbags sit ready for pick-up in case the flooding gets worse.
"If it gets any worse, yeah, I'm definitely getting sandbags, just to protect my property," said Anderson.
In South Bend, the Street Department says flooding will likely get worse on Wednesday after likely Tuesday rainfall.
