A man is in the hospital after his motorcycle hit a pickup truck Thursday afternoon in South Bend.
The accident happened on Sample Street near Kenmore Street.
Witnesses tell police the driver, Corey Putnam, tried to pass the truck while it was stopped, misjudged the distance, and hit the back of the truck.
Putnam was thrown off the bike and slid down the road. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Police say speed and alcohol appear to have been factors.
Putnam is currently in serious condition at Memorial Hospital.
