Temperatures are expected to keep dropping this week and that can lead to problems around the house.

There are some easy solutions that can help heat your home for less.

At Lowe's they sell roof rakes, which are basically extra long rakes to remove snow and de-icing cables that help keep snow from building up.

There are also a variety options to keep pipes from freezing like foam, wrap or electrical heating tape.

Some other easy tips to prevent the pipes from freezing include letting the faucet drip and leaving the cabinet doors open.

Some of the solutions cost less than one dollar or more than one hundred dollars depending on the project. Experts say the investment can be a big saver in the long run though.

“The little money that you spend now compared to not spending it can save you thousands and thousands of dollars,” says Alex Winder from Lowe’s.

I agree with Mike. The snow is an insulation unless it's causing extreme weight on the roof. Let the faucets drip. Keep blinds and/or curtains shut unless the sun is out. Go back to using common sense!

What would really be nice would be to have NIPSCO stop shafting the customers. Supply and Demand? In the summer, when you don't use gas for heating your home the price is low, but in winter the demand goes up and so does the price. Doesn't anyone else see a problem there? WNDU: try investigating this anomaly.

Wow talk about NIPSCO... Ive never had A gas bill as high as the mon. of dec. and Ive lived here for 15 yrs in the same house now what the world is there problem ? remember a few yrs back when there wasnt a storage fee and a delivery fee. and to top it off they charge sales tax on these two fees. now it seems like the systme. only works for these kind of companies .. and one time I new of a family that needed some assistance from nipsco and one of there colection jugs was set up at the martins super market and I asked the store person how do you get help for someone and he told me that that money wasnt for people in that area... so what do you think.....

might be a great idea to find out what really works and what is a waste of time and money. heard the heat cables help ice damming to happen, not sure if roof raking does any help - army troops piled snow on tents for insulation...would it work on homes? To me tho the best treatment for a cold snow day - BAKE COOKIES!!!!

Or Indiana could do something about the prices that NIPSCO charges and bring NIPSCO down to its knees to keep their prices under control!

M, you move to Florida and we don't have to listen to your silly comments.

Or just move to Utopia where M lives, where you don't have to worry about anything. (otherwise known as the sanitarium.)
