In another two weeks, every household in St. Joseph County should have a new recycling bin.

About 90% of all homeowners already have the new 96-gallon wheeled tote.

The rest should be distributed in the next two weeks.

While pick-up days remain the same, there is a new deadline for getting items to the curb.

"We're picking up on the same day as the previous schedule but the time of day has certainly changed, in order to be serviced they need to be out by 6 a.m. on the day of service," explains Ken Himes of Borden Waste Away.

The new contractor will continue to pick up the old 18-gallon bins through Wednesday of this week.

After that all customers who have the new wheeled totes, will be required to use them.

If you do not have your wheeled tote by Wednesday, January 14, Borden will continue to pick up your smaller bins.

Actually Woody, we didn't have a say in who received the contract or whether we wanted to pay extra to recycle. Our complaints should be to our elected officials who made these decisions.

To Woody, we are not whining, we are just asking for a service that we paid for and were promised. I did call and got the same reply as Amanda, they said do not move it, a supervisor was going to come out and investigate since they have had a number of calls from my street. My question is what is there to investigate, just send a truck if the entire street has called, sounds like it is a run around or they just like to waste money by sending a person to see if everyone on my street is lying. I was happy to hear we would be getting the larger totes with wheels, since we have a lot to recycle this will be a time saver; it would just be nice to get one. From what I have read on different sites, not just this one, there are a lot of people that have had issues, not just one or two. If yours got picked up without a problem, I am happy for you, but I am not happy that I will have to go down a ditch full of snow to get the stuff that blew away last night after it didn't get picked up.

I still don't have my container either and called them twice.

Here's a tip, instead of coming to 16's site to whine..take it up with the company involved. I must admit, only a handful of people complaining about the new recycling company's service, I'd say that is pretty impressive considering they are handling a whole county. Kudos, job well done.

I have also not recieved the new 96 gallon cart. I called Borden and was promised it by the 12th, the first pick-up. Never recieved it. Nor did the recycling get picked up on the 12th. Called Borden again, regarding no container and no pick up. I am not happy with Borden, they are failing the county. Borden needs to resolve their issue ASAP and do the job they signed a contract for.

Our pick up day was last Thursday, as of today, it is still not picked up - we did call Borden and they said a supervisor would be out to assess the situation in the neighborhood on Monday - don't know if that happened - They told us that if it was still not picked up by Monday night to just bring it back in until next Thursday. Don't know if they were out or not, but we did bring ours back in. Not off to a very good start in our neighborhood.

I called last week because we STILL do not have our new containers. I am wondering when they are going to get them to us. We have already had our first pick up of the year. What changed about the time? As I remember it, we were supposed to have them out by 6am already. It doesn't matter, we always put ours out the night before, just so when they miss us, again, we can call them and say you better send a truck out! Just because there are only 4 houses on our street does not mean we don't recycle. If I have to pay for it, I might as well do it! I don't have a say in that.

I appreciate my new wheeled tote. It makes recyling so much easier for our household...and I imagine for the collectors, as well!

They say the pick up days will remain the same? My usual pick up day was today, it is after 9 pm and my recycling is still down there waiting to be picked up. It was taken down last night to make sure we didn't miss an early pick up. It isn't just my house, the entire street was missed, Ireland Rd. and other areas around us had theirs picked up. With all the wind we are supposed to be getting will Borden come out and pick up all the recycling that will be all over the neighborhood? So far it doesn't look like Borden is off to a good start. By the way, we haven't received the awesome wheeled totes in this area either. I did try to call Borden, just got a machine, of course it was after 5:30 because we thought they would be picking up at anytime. Hope someone will let us know if we need to fetch it all back to the house and keep it another 2 WEEKS, by then they will try and tell us we have too much to take at one time. Management, should put in extra hours until this gets off the ground.
