The South Shore train is having a busy holiday season this year. So much so that it surprised a lucky rider Monday morning.

Annette Bontrager from Goshen found out this morning she was the 300,000 passenger this year on the South Shore.

Bontrager and her kids were on their way to Chicago to the American Girls store.

Now they'll have plenty more reasons to head to the windy city! "We have got free passes for I believe it was 25 trips. We have two tickets in here so it's great - we will use this!"

Bontrager says she's shocked with the surprise this morning, “just thank you, wow, this was very exciting and we're very appreciative. We like riding the South Shore, it's very comfortable and the girls like it. It's easy.”

In addition to the free tickets, airport officials handed Bontrager a gift bag with even more goodies!

Heartless, maybe. Correct, definitely.

anon at 9:14 is very heartless, apparently. I'm glad that person didn't win it because then it really would have been wasted on somebody so rude. Congrats to this woman who won!! :) What a great surprise!!!

How do you know that this is more wasted tax dollars? This is money that the South Shore has EARNED by having PAYING passengers ride their train and the airport gift was donated. You need to get in the giving spirit. I think you are just jealous because you didn't win. Grow up!!!

Do you like the railroad? While watch tomorrow night as the St. Joe County Council and Steve Luecke pretend like $47 million dollars does not exist as they railroad the heck out of every citizen and increase the LOIT.
