Another day, another announcement that more Michiana residents are losing their jobs.

Utilimaster Corporation in Wakarusa laid off 40-people Friday.

Vice-president of human resources, Hugh Ogren says the layoffs are "absolutely" related to the economy.

He says the layoffs started this week.

Utilimaster makes delivery trucks for companies like UPS and FedEx.

Ogren hopes the layoffs are temporary, but says only time and the economy will tell.

This just in... Elkhart County unemployment rate skyrockets to 12.4%. The city of Elkhart leads the state with a 14% unemployment rate and the city of Goshen with comes in second with a 12.3% unemployment rate. This could truly be the end to a great county.

Sounds a little dirty to me. Lay 'em off just as regular 2 week shutdown is starting. Could at least let them keep their insurance for that time. Maybe I'm wrong.
