If they don't have a parking pass at the stadium, every season, every game, fans say they factor in a lot of extra time to find a spot.
On Saturday many worry, will I find a spot at all?
With old man winter on defense, there's a lot of tackling to be done.
That's why Notre Dame University wasted no time clearing their general parking lot, White Field.
With snow claiming a good portion of it, many fear they have to fight the frigid temperatures.
At Friday night’s pep rally, the Fighting Irish gear up to take down the Syracuse Orangemen, while fans on both sides are talking at the dinner table at Parisi's.
Roger Myers says, “We're dreading we really don't have anywhere to park. We're going to try to come in early, but it's going to be so cold.”
It was oh so warm in 2007, the last time Roger Myers was here watching Notre Dame versus Georgia Tech.
That day, he enjoyed walking a mile, not this time.
Myers says, “If it's too bad, we may just have to go back to the car and find a place to watch it.”
No one wants to see frowning fans, so all day crews have been clearing White Field. Normally, about 4,000 vehicles can park, but they're anticipating half that on Saturday. To make room, RV’s will be parked in the next lot over at Notre Dame Federal Credit Union.
This is a game plan for game day parking put out by Transpo.
You can park at Town & Country Shopping Center on McKinley Avenue, College Football Hall of Fame, Transpo's South Street Station, Washington & Main across from the Holiday Inn, Saint Mary's College
St. Joseph's High School, and many local hotels.
Costs vary. We're told by Transpo that parking is about $20 at St. Joseph’s High and St. Mary's.
The shuttle to the stadium is $3 one way.
Parking is free at Town & Country and South Street Station. The shuttle is $5 one way.
If you pay in advance, it's $7 round trip. Those tickets can be purchased at several locations.
In South Bend, you can go to Fiddler’s Hearth, the College Football Hall of Fame, and South Street Station.
In Mishawaka, advanced purchases can be made at Varsity Club, Holiday Inn & Express, and Hyatt Place.
The bottom line, plan ahead, or be prepared to walk unless you really can't.
Kevin Sathre says, “I guess for one time, I'm actually glad I have an injury. So, my buddies get to ride on my success, my hurt, I don't know.”
We're told the last time a good amount of snow was on the ground on game day was in 1992. It was the Notre Dame versus Penn State game. The snow didn't start until during the game, so parking wasn't an issue.
