Three area football teams are moving on to Semi-State.

Penn and Jimtown won regional championships Friday night with shutout wins while NorthWood advanced with a seven point win over Andrean.

Triton saw its season come to an end with a shutout loss to Southern Wells.

For the Kingsmen, it was sweet revenge on Friday night.

A year ago, Penn lost at Merrillville 21-20 in the Regional Finals. This year, it was all Penn.

Mike Carroll had three interceptions, including two on the Pirates' first two possessions of the game as the Wild Bunch shutout Merrillville 19-0 at Demaree Stadium.

Facing the Pirates' 6'6" quarterback Dolapo McCarthy, Penn's defensive leader---Carroll stepped up on the game's very first play with an interception returned inside the Pirate 20 yard line.

It led to a 26 yard Alan Sinclair field goal to make it 3-0.

On the next Pirate possession, Carroll again picked off a McCarthy pass and returned it inside the 20.

The Kingsmen offense again failed to score a touchdown. Sinclair booted a 40-yard field goal to make it 6-0.

In the 2nd quarter, Penn's offense woke up with a long drive capped off by a 12-yard touchdown pass from Jared Melander to Garrick Dikos to make it 12-0. That was the score at the half.

In the 4th quarter, Carroll intercepted another pass. This one led to a Brandon Drudge touchdown run to make it 19-0.

McCarthy, who is getting a number of Division I looks, also fumbled and had four turnovers for the game.

The Kingsmen are headed to Semi-State for the first time since 2004. Penn also shutout Merrillville that year to make it to the final four.

Cory Yeoman's group will go on the road to face 12-1 Carmel, who defeated FW Snider 24-21, next Friday night.

In 3A, Skylar Titus rushed for two touchdowns and threw a third as NorthWood held off Andrean 35-28 to win the Regional Championship at Andrews Field in Nappanee.

Andrean held a 14-7 lead in the 1st half thanks to two touchdowns by Kyle Kovach.

Titus then scored a QB keeper to tie the game at 14 at the half.

In the 3rd, Titus broke loose for a 60-yard touchdown run to put the Panthers up seven.

After Andrean scored to pull within one, Danzale Johnson rushed it 50 yards for a touchdown to make it 28-20 NorthWood.

Andrean would drive downfield but Kovach would fumble inside the NorthWood 10 yard line and the Panthers would recover.

59ers coach Phil Mason did not like the call and was ejected after arguing with officials.

Titus then sealed the game with a touchdown pass to Spencer Hill.

NorthWood, which won the state title when the current seniors were freshmen, will go on the road next Friday to face Bellmont.
-----------
In 2A, Nick Magyar rushed 154 yards and a touchdown as Jimtown shutout Madison-Grant 21-0 in Fairmount.

Josh Ruben and Zach Spurgeon also scored touchdowns for the Jimmies.

Jimtown will again be on the road next Friday when they travel to Cass.
---------
In 1A, Triton was no match for undefeated Southern Wells, which shutout the Trojans 32-0 in Bourbon.

Jacob Miller scored on a 30-yard touchdown run for the Raiders to get the offense moving early.
