With dog in hand, Nicole Moon walks the streets of Benton Harbor.

And even though she says she doesn't feel unsafe, she's heard about the seven recent armed robberies that have all occurred within about a week.

Each robbery has involved women.

"It's a little disturbing to hear that there's someone walking around with a gun, holding up women," Moon admits.

"Women are coming home and exiting their vehicles, walking towards the house when the suspect approaches them," explains Detective William Althouse.

On Friday, a press conference was held to address the problem.

"We believe that someone in the city knows exactly who is involved in this matter, and they can help us bring it to a stop," said Chief Al Mingo.

If someone lends a hand in catching the man responsible, the current amount being offered is between $1,500 and $2,000.

"We are offering a reward -- we personally are contributing to this account -- and we want to see this individual apprehended," explained Commissioner James Hightower.

The suspect has been described as being a black male, roughly six feet tall, with a thin build and medium complexion. He tends to wear a gray or black hooded sweatshirt.

Fortunately, nobody has been hurt yet, and police hope the reward will lead to an arrest.

"It needs to be public, because unsuspecting women can be out and about and not be as cautious as they should be," warned Moon.

If you would like to donate money to the reward fund, just go to any Chase bank and donate to the Benton Harbor Tip Fund.

If you have any information on these robberies, please call the tip line at 269-927-8466 or Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP.
