Two families are suing an Indiana organ donor group for medical malpractice.

They claim their loved-ones died after receiving transplants from a cancer patient.

Anthony Taylor, 45, of South Bend died in 2007, nine months after receiving a kidney and liver transplant. Another man also died after receiving a kidney from the same woman.

The donor had skin cancer that spread to her liver and her kidneys.

The families claim the Indiana organ procurement group did not properly screen the donated organs, but the organ group says their screenings meet state and federal regulations.

Something like that happen to a friend of mine but his organs came from a hiv poz person. They say that the hiv was in early stage and didnt show up until weeks after he got his organs. Its a shame

Wow! Sandy, what a story, you and your family are in my prayers as well as all the people involved in the story above. I know they can do wonderful things with donated organs. I would assume the donor/doctors/etc. had no idea she had cancer in her organs, why would they take someone else's life, they're trying to save them! Please don't let this story deter you, or your family members, from donating organs, they are desperately needed!

I have dealt with IOPO in the past. This is a very professional and caring group. I am sure that they met all their guidelines before transplanting this woman's organs into another human being. Perhaps her cancer history was not made known to IOPO. These people are not God and do not profess to be. They deal with families in the worst possible time of their lives, right after being told that a loved one is brain dead or beyond the realm of surviving. IOPO was so understanding when my fiance passed away from a brain aneurysm in 2002. They explained everything to me and to his two children before the forms were signed. We knew that Rex was not coming back but that some of his organs could be used to save others. They do not guarantee how long an organ recipient will live or what quality of life they may have after transplantion. Every person's body deals with transplanted organs in different ways. All of Rex's recipient's are still living to my knowledge except for the heart.
