There were some scary moments Wednesday afternoon for some Penn High School students and their bus driver.

Around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, a truck hit a school bus at the intersection of Cleveland Road and Bittersweet.

St. Joseph County Police say one student was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. They no one else was injured.

The bus was traveling northbound on Bittersweet and the truck was heading east on Cleveland.

Police say the truck's driver blew through the stop sign and hit the front end of the bus.

He was ticketed for not stopping. Police don't think alcohol or drugs are a factor in this accident.

I was riding in my bus when that happened, and as soon as the bus driver of bus 80 said that they were hit by a truck at the corner of bittersweet and cleveland, everyone on the bus looked back. You could see the bus smoking before we even got over the Toll Road. We all had the same thought, "What if we were running a few seconds behind, that could've been us!"

Angie..all intersections are terrible when you factor in the number of ignorant drivers in this area. As far as doing something, short of having officers sit at each and every intersection, all you can do is drive defensively. Thank God no one was hurt badly. However, the truck driver literally should have no driving privileges for at least one full year. When he cant get his rear to work on his own then maybe he will learn to read and understand what S T O P really means.

In the past year, I've personally watched 2 different cars blow through those stop signs as if they never saw them (going 55 mph, mind you). Both were very early, before the sun was up, so maybe that was a factor, but luckily I was still approaching and no one was crossing the intersection at the time. For such a highly-trafficked intersection, the only safe solution would be traffic lights. I won't hold my breath. We all know that won't even be considered until someone loses their life.

St Joe County needs to put a light at that intersection!!! Same with Cleveland and Fir... thats a bad intersection, too. Either people don't take their turn or half-ass it at the stop sign at both intersections.

Thank God no one was hurt. That intersection is terrible, I'm surprised there aren't more accidents. People run through those stop signs all the time, or "cruise through" along with the person in front of them when it isn't their turn. Something needs to be done before someone is killed.
