Getting around South Bend's northwest side is going to get a little tricky starting Monday.

A construction project will close the intersection of Bendix and Voorde. Police have set up a detour.

Here's what you'll have to do: if you're traveling eastbound on Voorde, turn right on Sheridan Street, then left on Lincolnway West, and then onto Bendix.

And westbound traffic is asked to take Bendix south to Lincolnway, then turn right onto Sheridan, until you hit Voorde.

I only can hope this doesn't take as many "years" as the Darden Road project is taking. These road crews can drag projects out for an unbelievable amount of time! They need someone in project planning to schedule these road projects in phases so that it doesn't take FOREVER!

Just please don't put up one of those roundabouts. I can't figure those things out. And why did Not My Man Mitch have to sell our Toll Road and make us change our clocks? For shame. Thank goodness for the machine here in St. Joseph County! They've given me a job leaning on a shovel with the street department so I will forever vote however they tell me to without question.

The only thing I'm complaining about is a stoplight that has far outlived its usefulness. Four lanes of 40mph traffic have to make a full stop for a single minivan wanting to turn left onto Bendix? That's crazy!

hmm ... people complain when theres too many potholes ... people complain when they fix the roads ... I guess some people are impossible to please

Im with you Todd. I have no use for South Bend either. Actually the entire state of Indiana is useless to me. Maybe I will move to Zimbabwe, where there will be no pesky road construction.

I'm glad you cleared this up; I was under the impression that Bendix would be closed at Voorde, which is a whole different, and more extensive, traffic mess. And who uses Voorde drive anymore anyway? They should rip that stoplight up while they're at it.

To Todd, construction happens all the time in every town. Be thankful that they are even fixing things up. Would you rather have them not fix any roads just because it causes an inconvenience to you for awhile?

No use for the city of South Bend? Then stay out of its newspaper. All cities have detours,Mishawaka has several also. It is inconvenient but think of it this way. Those are jobs for people in your city. Thank The Lord you can get gas to get around the city

I am just staying out of South Bend. All the road construction at once is ridiculous! You can hardly even get downtown from McKinley without taking ten detours. Oh well..once the hospital is open I will have no use for that city. We have it going on in Mishawaka.
