It started bright and early Saturday.
People drove up to donate all morning long, and volunteers put those donations into boxes.
"It actually makes me feel good, because if I was in need I would want somebody like this to do it for me," said one of those volunteers.
Those donations helped stock the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, which supplies six counties in Michiana with about two and a half million pounds of food every year.
"We are looking at a time when the economy is bad. Even the working are coming to the pantries," one of the workers told us. "And so we're in need of fundraisers to get more food, get more money. We just need everyone to donate."
Many came out to do just that at the parking lot of WNDU and at Fun Tan in Granger
"We just wanted to make a change for people that don't have food. We just wanted to give them something," explained a young member of the Loring family.
Many gave food, such as canned goods. Others gave money. Over the course of the morning, it all added up.
"We have a lot of people coming in who really need the help, so if you really need the help we're willing to help you," said Ralph Stevens. "The more that you give, eventually you will get back."
Saturday was all about helping others.
"Because it kinda just feels right; it feels good to help others," explained the young Loring girl.
Fun Tan and St. Clair Apparel deserve special thanks. Each organization donated $1,000 to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.
If you did not get a chance to stop by Saturday morning, you can still help!
The five area Fun Tan locations are collecting food and money all weekend long.
