Economic woes are trickling down to the state level, in the form of high unemployment.

Here's a look at numbers released Friday for right here in Michiana:

While Indiana added 4,100 jobs in August -- the fifth most in the country -- the state's unemployment rate still rose from 6.3 percent to 6.4 percent.

Meanwhile, north of the state line in Michigan, unemployment is still tops in the nation and rising, up to 8.9 percent in August.

Nationwide 6.1 percent of the workforce was unemployed last month.

Anyone can work. Question is will the paycheck pay the bills. Will the paycheck pay for school, food, rent, utilities, clothes, medical. If not then why bother.

The majority of this unemployment rate is due to Elkhart County's RV industry. Until Elkhart learns to bring in other than RV related industry, they will always have the ups and downs. Michigan is the same way, they rely on the Automotive industry to much. Indiana is trying to bring in more jobs that are not connected to Manufacturing. But right now I imagine most companies are sitting back and waiting for two things. The election both State and Federal and the economy to improve.

Choice of wording in this article is disceptive. How do you ADD jobs while the unemployment rate increases? Why don't you say, "4100 lost jobs were replaced, but unemployment rate is countinuing to increase". Dan - you are correct. The system penalizes the people that work and pay their bills. It's called taxes. Taxes that are used to support those who don't want to work and those who make enough money and can afford to higher a tax-lawyer, to help them avoid paying their fair share. Before anyone goes crazy - I said, "People who don't WANT to work, not people who WILL work, if there are jobs available".

I'll tell you one thing about Granholm, when she does something she's always #1 at it. She'll always be #2 in my book, though.

Sorry Indy Govy Granholm's Work to Welfare program appears to be spilling across states lines. Your best bet to combat it is to re elect Mitch and turn the Socialist Obama away.

OH, but dont worry, the new plymouth to south bend bypass is now underway, it will create so many more jobs for our area that all are going to praise this for years and years to come........ . I wondered if anyone noticed that Jackie Walorski was wearing a pair of Sarah Palin look alike glasses at this ground breaking of the new bypass??????

well what do you think would happen when all the jobs are being took out of this country? It is only going to get worse if our do nothing congress continues on same path. Oh ya- they are going to bailout the finicial system and take care of mostly all their cronies and high dollar executives with the taxpayers money. We might as well bailout everyone who has gambled over the years and penilize the people who pay their bills. Right is now wrong and wrong is slowly becoming right- that is a pretty sad situation but it is todays societies model. The only thing I can say is praise the lord and return soon Jesus. God Bless the USA
