With Hurricane Ike bearing down on the Gulf Coast region, many Americans are worried that gas prices may increase in response.
Around South Bend, however, the prices have not jumped very much, and most stayed below $4.00 a gallon Friday.
But Kentucky's governor declared a state of emergency and invoked the state's anti-gouging law after prices rose dramatically.
Michigan's governor also spoke out, telling drivers that there is no reason to worry yet about gas prices increasing.
"Please do not panic," urged Gov. Jennifer Granholm. "There should not be a rush to gas stations. There is ample supply now to meet the current demand."
Granholm pledged to find and prosecute any gas stations involved with price gouging.
