While many of us in Michiana had our eyes glued to the television watching the Democratic National Convention, some had the opportunity to be there watching the speakers up close and personal.

You can hear the excitement in their voices. We talked to St. Joe County Auditor Pete Mullen and South Bend Mayor Steve Luecke's assistant, Lynn Coleman.

They say being there as delegates has made them really stop and do some thinking -- not necessarily about the problems America has, but rather the positive outcome that they believe will follow with Democrats leading the way.

Indiana delegates at the Democratic National Convention say the best is yet to come for America.

"This is extremely, extremely, incredible," Coleman told me, with the roar of the crowd nearly overpowering his voice.

"For an adult, I suppose -- to me -- it was like my kids going to Disney World for the first time," Mullen explained.

Both Mullen and Coleman, believe that the words spoken by former President Bill Clinton cleared up any doubt Americans may have about Barack Obama.

"Barack Obama is ready to be President of the United States," Clinton told the audience. "He has the intelligence and curiosity every successful president needs."

Clinton recalled his original campaign for president, and how he was attacked for being too unproven as a leader. Applause erupted when he mimicked the words of his detractors: "I was 'too young' and 'too inexperienced' to be Commander in Chief."

Coleman says he appreciated one of the many high-fives Clinton gave Obama.

"Picking the running mate, he knocked it out of the park. That was awesome," Coleman said, about Obama's choice of Joe Biden.

"He truly had the crowd just mesmerized," Mullen emphasized.

Mesmerized about the positives ahead for America, and the chance for Obama to correct the negative realities the United States faces.

"The middle class has been hurt so much by cost of food, cost of gasoline, loss of jobs, loss of health care, high unemployment, and how far we've fallen in the world – not only in the world, and in our own backyard," Mullen elaborates.

"People have to walk out of here believing that Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton [are] 100 percent supportive of Barack and Joe Biden," Coleman concluded.

To sum it up for Bruce in Mishawaka, even though I generalize: Republicans are against killing unborn and accidentally born babies, democrats are not. Republicans believe in personal responsibility, democrats do not. Republicans believe you should enjoy the fruits of your hard work, democrats believe you should be forced to share those fruits with everyone else whether they work hard or not. Republicans want to protect America from the rest of the world, democrats want to protect the rest of the world from America. And finally: Republicans have a HOT VP candidate. So there you go.

Wow from these comments I didn't realize that there was so much hatred and racism in Michiana! I guess since the economy isn't Bush's fault that big lie he told to get into the war wasn't his fault either

How does it feel to be one of the democratic sheep? Wake up and TRY thinking for yourself. People like you would vote for Hitler if he was on the ticket. President Bush is not to blame for the economy as you democrats would like to believe. The fact is the democrats have been in power for 2 years and promised "change" and they have done nothing. Now you are naive enough to vote for a democrat that will only tax you more and put our country in serious danger. And you call yourselves Americans. Ha I don't think so.

Is anyone else sick of the phrase "middle class" yet? Or the fact that these multi-millionaire politicians like to feign concern for them?

Also missing is the appreciation for our troops and their families who have sacrificed so much in the past several years. Yes we are winning and will win but any good news on that front simply means bad news for the democrats so it's not surprising they dodge the issue as much as possible now is it?

"Instead of worrying about whether or not illegals can speak English, you had better make sure you can speak Spanish!"-Barack Obama. No way I will vote for that garbage.

No wonder we haven't heard anything about an income tax hike in South Bend this week Pete Mullen is out of town. Maybe us overburdened taxpayers could find a way to keep him there it would be cheaper than what he has in store for us.

To BD, Les, Mary and the rest of you, you all must be the grunts of the Bush adminstration.

what a great role model to speak at the donkey convention - an impeached president. all i can say is the dems & liberals have no idea what's going on in this world and their plans to "change" will only drive more businesses overseas and set the groundwork for a ridiculous amount of social spending. healthcare, eductation, jobs - there are NOT God Given Rights and are not guaranteed to anyone! the dnc convention is the most ridiculous thing i've watched - everyone is a bunch of dreamers living in never never land.

Has anyone noticed some one missing in Denver? I have not watched much of it, but I did see Hillary nominating Barack. Giving credit to the party and country, but no mention of GOD. They appear to not need him, I guess they figure to replace him. Maybe that's the CHANGE they have been talking about. Are they the leaders we really want with a restless bear on the other side of the pond? I think GOOD SOILDERS might just be what we need.

Bill and Hillary Clinton deserve Oscar Awards for their performances. I'm sure they both used all of their powers to not choke on their words as they pretended to support Mr. Hussein Obama. Even Jimmy Carter, in a news interview, had difficulty forming his words as he claimed to support Obama and the "unity" of the Democratic Party.
