While many of us in Michiana had our eyes glued to the television watching the Democratic National Convention, some had the opportunity to be there watching the speakers up close and personal.
You can hear the excitement in their voices. We talked to St. Joe County Auditor Pete Mullen and South Bend Mayor Steve Luecke's assistant, Lynn Coleman.
They say being there as delegates has made them really stop and do some thinking -- not necessarily about the problems America has, but rather the positive outcome that they believe will follow with Democrats leading the way.
Indiana delegates at the Democratic National Convention say the best is yet to come for America.
"This is extremely, extremely, incredible," Coleman told me, with the roar of the crowd nearly overpowering his voice.
"For an adult, I suppose -- to me -- it was like my kids going to Disney World for the first time," Mullen explained.
Both Mullen and Coleman, believe that the words spoken by former President Bill Clinton cleared up any doubt Americans may have about Barack Obama.
"Barack Obama is ready to be President of the United States," Clinton told the audience. "He has the intelligence and curiosity every successful president needs."
Clinton recalled his original campaign for president, and how he was attacked for being too unproven as a leader. Applause erupted when he mimicked the words of his detractors: "I was 'too young' and 'too inexperienced' to be Commander in Chief."
Coleman says he appreciated one of the many high-fives Clinton gave Obama.
"Picking the running mate, he knocked it out of the park. That was awesome," Coleman said, about Obama's choice of Joe Biden.
"He truly had the crowd just mesmerized," Mullen emphasized.
Mesmerized about the positives ahead for America, and the chance for Obama to correct the negative realities the United States faces.
"The middle class has been hurt so much by cost of food, cost of gasoline, loss of jobs, loss of health care, high unemployment, and how far we've fallen in the world – not only in the world, and in our own backyard," Mullen elaborates.
"People have to walk out of here believing that Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton [are] 100 percent supportive of Barack and Joe Biden," Coleman concluded.
