Today Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm ordered flags in Michigan to be lowered to half-staff on Friday in honor of fallen Army Staff Sergeant Kristopher Dan Rodgers.

Rodgers, 29, died August 16 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle.

He was just starting his second tour of duty overseas when the attack happened.

Visitation for Rodgers is Thursday, August 28, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Hackman Family Funeral Homes in Sturgis, Michigan.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Sturgis Wesleyan Church.

Military rites will take place after the funeral at the Lakeland Football Stadium in LaGrange.

I am so glad to hear that my old community is doing this for him and his family/friends. I knew Kris from Lakeland and track & field. It breaks my heart that this happened like it did, but I'm sure he was proud to serve his country. God bless his family/friends.

According to WTHD.net LAGRANGE - A group is organizing a human chain this Saturday to receive the procession for Staff Sergeant Kris Rodgers. The human chain will begin at Lakeland and go down Nursery Street to State Road 9 and then north towards Sturgis. Participants are asked to bring U-S flags and to park along side streets, reserving the Lakeland parking lot for family and friends. For more information you can call Cindy Miller and 367-1609. In addition, a benefit dinner will be held at the American Legion Post 215 in LaGrange this Friday night with the proceeds going to the Rodgers family. The Legion Riders are sponsoring a Pork Chop or Shrimp dinner from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. The American Legion is located east of State Road Nine, just North of LaGrange, across from Wells Fargo bank.
