Jill Long Thompson, Indiana's Democratic candidate for governor, is opening a Michiana campaign office.

Her supporters celebrated the opening of their Mishawaka office on Sunday.

As they have in the past, steelworkers are lending their union hall to help the campaign.

The office at 125 South Hill Street will serve as a base for volunteers as they make phone calls and canvass neighborhoods.

Long Thompson is expected to make several stops at the office before November's election.

"This is important because there are so many voters to reach in the Second District and in St. Joseph County, and we've had a lot of success working out of this office in the past," said Democratic Chairman Butch Morgan.

This fall, Jill Long Thompson faces incumbent Republican Mitch Daniels for the governor's seat.

I guess Mr. Blythe has moved on to propagandize elsewhere. To answer my own question, JLT is an academic with little real world experience, and I'll end my posts with a quote from Will Rogers: "The more that learn to read the less learn how to make a living. That's one thing about a little education. It spoils you for actual work. The more you know the more you think somebody owes you a living."

You won't get an answer on Jill's qualifications as they are absent. The one thing I have learned over the past four years or so is that it's very easy to back Dustin into a corner.

If you make 42,000 a year or more watch out! Obama and Jill are going to TAX you into eternity!

Still waiting to see all of jill long's qualifications . . .

Posted by: Willie Location: Niles on Aug 11, 2008 at 11:15 PM
Dustin, (I could make some smart comment about Republicans having jobs and being able to pay their "volunteers", but I won't) your professed dedication and resilience aside, you still haven't answered the question. What are Long-Johnson's qualifications for Governor of Indiana??? I am REALLY interested to know.

Posted by: Mr. Sarcasm on Aug 11, 2008 at 11:12 PM
Really, Dustin, you're not paid? I make over 200K doing this part time. I have to admit that I love looking up rumors, like the Obama birth certificate being a fake on his web site. Somebody says they have proof it's really his sister's, and somebody did a lousy job of changing it. Is that true? I don't know, but it's fun to make the Obamanation sweat it out.

Considering Mitch Daniels paid young women to sit outside the polls in '04 and Chocola paid to have his signs placed along 31, I can see how some might think that the Democratic Party might pay it's "volunteers", and me as well. If I were paid for all of the times I have been singled out by Republicans on WNDU.COM, I could retire today. Strangely enough, I comment because I want to, not because I am paid to. Even more strange, Republicans' comments do not bother me (even when you use my last name!). So keep the comments coming, I enjoy the back and forth almost as much as the typos. When you get tired of shooting the messenger you can go back to defending the Republican record over the past eight years. Democratically yours...

Jill Long-Thompson. She really shouldn't hyphenate her last names. Just doesn't sound, umm, clean. 'Nuff said.

Nice try Dustin..lame as always. The turn out was embarrassing. To Frank...St Joseph county is doing quite well, thank you. Mishawaka continues to grow at record pace with businesses. You may not get the factory job you want...but the jobs are certainly out there. It is nobody's fault but the RV Industries on what happened. They have had a record for years of poor projections. Of course it was going to crash on them. You don't build new plants like they did just because your having a few good years. The RV industry is one of the poorest ran out there. They think of the now and not the future. Mitch has done a wonderful job. Is he bold, certainly, and quite honestly Dustin, Indiana needed it to get us back on track. We have had enough of below average politicians who are yes men. Mishawaka is doing awesome Dustin, but South Bend continues to struggle. Democratic rule none the less. Im glad your guy lost to Rae for sure.

Dustin...I noticed a comment stating you're paid to respond to these blogs by the Dem party. If that's true, I'd suggest finding something you're good at.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 11, 2008 at 03:27 PM
Gee, she must have not been able to afford an office in South Bend. Her taxes must have been to high.

Posted by: Hey Frankie Whiner on Aug 11, 2008 at 02:12 PM
The state of Indiana has a HUGE budget surplus for the first time in YEARS! The private sector (especially) RV Industry is down on it's luck because of the high price of gas. The Demo-Socialists (your folk) won't let us drill for oil here, so we import it from other countries and it is KILLING US! THAT is why the economy is struggling. YOUR folk are driving us into economic chaos. GO MITCH!!!

Posted by: Bill Location: Osceola on Aug 11, 2008 at 01:46 PM
GO MITCH...best Governor this state has ever seen

Posted by: Frank Location: Rural Marshall County on Aug 11, 2008 at 01:34 PM
where is the rest of the state flourishing? Perhaps in the governmental job area, but the private sector is struggling.........just wait unitl the heating season starts, you think you heard squaking about gasoline....there are going to be serious problems........

Posted by: Trent on Aug 11, 2008 at 01:33 PM
Ya know, we used to complain about the waste in government. I dont agree with everything Mitch has done, but think about it, the privatizing of jobs that were previously run by the governement. How can this possibly be bad for the state? It has to save us taxpayers money because the private sector will do things far more efficient and thus not charge the state as much.

Posted by: Fred on Aug 11, 2008 at 12:02 PM
If that is the best Dustin the Democratic operative can do for Jill, that race is over.

Posted by: CityEmployee Location: South Bend on Aug 11, 2008 at 11:59 AM
Willie from Niles is right on . . .let's see this career failed politician's qualifications. It seems that the dems are all about "change" everywhere except here in cushy St. Joe County. They've been doing things the same way here for over 40 years and look what we have to show for it . . . a parade of people and businesses leaving, no plan for economic growth, and an incomplete river walk (see Darden Rd. disaster) for luecke and kernan to sing "Kumbaya" while riding their tandem bike.

I don't vote for men or women with hyphenated last names. It is a sign of insecurity and weakness.

Posted by: Dave Location: Elkhart on Aug 11, 2008 at 11:06 AM
Anyone but Mitch

Posted by: Brian Location: Elkhart on Aug 11, 2008 at 11:00 AM
Geez this women is such a joke she just keeps looking for a job in politics because she has nothing to offer private sector business. For those that think Mitch was wrong for Indiana this women will wreck Indiana like Michigan and Ohio.,

Posted by: Willie Location: Niles on Aug 11, 2008 at 10:58 AM
Dustin, why don't you list Long-Johnson's qualifications here instead of merely reciting the "Change!" mantra so popular with democrats these days. Go ahead, we're listening.

Posted by: jill Location: Mishawaka on Aug 11, 2008 at 10:43 AM
Dustin, do you have a real job, or do you ride the coat tails of the weak dems? Seriously do you think she has a chance? Only the cry babies will vote for her, oh I mean the democrats!

Posted by: CityEmployee Location: South Bend on Aug 11, 2008 at 10:28 AM
Why would anyone in their right mind take "our area" seriously? It's a haven for cronyism and has been for the last 40 years, which explains quite clearly why "our area" is the laughingstock of the state.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 11, 2008 at 09:53 AM
Still think Schellinger had a better chance than Jill.

Posted by: Dustin Location: Mishawaka on Aug 11, 2008 at 08:21 AM
Well, Todd, I wouldn't want to disappoint you or my many fans out there. I was at the office opening and it was a good turnout. The comments here notwithstanding, there are many people in the northern part of the state who are not thrilled with Mitch Daniels' record over the past four years: privatization of services, strongarm "leadership", and now passing the buck to local government. I think people are ready for a change and Jill Long Thompson's office opening is a sign that she is taking this race, and our area, seriously.

Posted by: CityEmployee Location: South Bend on Aug 11, 2008 at 08:08 AM
The only two places in the state this woman has of winning is St. Joe County and Lake County - both of which have been ruined due to years of incompetent dem rule. She'll play to the sheep and ostriches who are upset with the Governor because "he sold our Toll Road and makes us change our clocks." Meanwhile, the rest of the state flourishes. The nice thing is that a lot of people seem to be waking up to that fact around here and are calling for luecke's removal. Too bad the damage is already done.

Posted by: Ken Location: Milford on Aug 11, 2008 at 07:58 AM
Does anybody know what her political background is?

Posted by: watch out on Aug 11, 2008 at 06:26 AM
Watch Out all of you gun owners...she is a gun grabber politician. At least Mitch wants us to be able to defend ourselves.

Posted by: eh Location: mi on Aug 11, 2008 at 04:24 AM
you said it right. UNION bosses. need i say more?

Posted by: Union Worker Location: Michiana on Aug 10, 2008 at 10:23 PM
Steelworkers have done exceptionally well under President Bush and the current Governor. Bill Clinton sold us out and put bethlehem Steel out of business for Mittall Steel. I find it strange how our union bosses ase so stupid and biased!

Posted by: TD on Aug 10, 2008 at 10:15 PM
The Democrats really drop the ball nominating Jill to run. Anyone else probally beats Mitch, but not her.

Posted by: Todd Location: South Bend on Aug 10, 2008 at 09:29 PM
Im just waiting for Dustin B. to chime in and say how great she is. We all know how good of a judge in political character he is..or isn't.

Posted by: Randy Location: South Bend on Aug 10, 2008 at 09:17 PM
Don't answer your door when she comes. This is a waste of your time, she has no chance of winning. This is silly.

Posted by: Mitch Location: Mishawaka on Aug 10, 2008 at 08:18 PM
Butch Morgan is so crooked. Don't believe a word he says.

Posted by: Mark on Aug 10, 2008 at 07:06 PM
Nobody here cares, Jill.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 10, 2008 at 07:04 PM
This is such a joke...Jill her self didn't even appear..at least according to video, and there was only about 30 people there at most. I don't know why she is even trying. Her past political record was not great. Does she think that we will forget that? Matter of fact..where in the world has she been? I have only seen her on TV once recently.
